I love trying out new fashion trends, and what better place to experiment than at New York Fashion Week! I’m giving the backward shirt trend a try, and giving you a behind the scenes look at the Jason Wu show!
When people think of Fashion Week their first thought is usually fancy clothing and maybe some purses and accessories, right? But it’s all so much more than a model strutting down the runway. Designers spend months curating and perfecting an entire experience to showcase to the world. Not only does the designer create the fashion, they’re responsible for everything from the set to the shoes, and even the hair and makeup! That’s what I love the most about the Jason Wu shows, every little detail has been planned to match the collection, creating not just a show but a performance. As you guys know, I love makeup, and I found the makeup look at this show to be one of my favorites. The makeup artist did a bold velvety red lip paired with a really simple clean eye. The classic red was just the perfect companion to the entire gorgeous collection.
I’ve been a big fan of Jason Wu ever since he was introduced to the world when he designed Michelle Obama’s Inauguration dress. Believe it or not, I’m not the one that noticed him at first! It was my husband! He’s very into politics so he was very proud that a Taiwanese designer designed the First Lady’s dress. So all thanks to Allen, ever since I found out about him a few years back I’ve been a big fan! So watching him rise from where he first started to the fashion power-house he is today makes me so proud! His collections are something that are so consistent you know what to expect but in the best way possible. When you see his collection, you know you’ll see something feminine, sexy, and wearable. Being able to attend a Jason Wu show (with my sister!) was an unforgettable experience.
When deciding what to wear to the show, I chose to wear an exaggerated version of what I would wear on a regular basis. Fashion Week is the perfect opportunity to add a twist to things, all the better to be spotted by street style photographers, right? This Marnie top is actually one of my favorite new purchases. At first glance, it actually looks like you’re wearing the blouse backwards! This backward shirt look is a trend I’ve been seeing a lot recently, but in this case the top was actually designed to look like that. Instead of buttoning it up all the way, I only buttoned the top button! Everyone loves a good back moment right? What better place to try out the backward shirt trend than a the Jason Wu show during Fashion Week! An easy way to try trend yourself is to get one of your white button downs (or steal one from your hubby or boyfriend! ) and put it on backwards! I paired the top with these wide leg trousers by Derek Lam. (Have you noticed my obsession with Asian designers lately?) Although I love a good pair of skinny jeans, I’ve kind of put them on the back-burner recently! Wide legged and flared are totally back on rotation for me!
I hope everyone has a fantastic Friday! And remember, keep your eyes forward and your shirt backwards!
